Our Team is coming together to remember and celebrate our friend and colleague Derek.

Derek embodied the qualities we aspire to as Caltrans Bridge Engineers - he was very talented, vastly knowledgeable, and deeply passionate.

Derek wasn’t just someone we worked with. He made us feel seen, supported, and valued. Always willing to go the extra mile, he shared his knowledge and experience generously to mentor, help, and support others.

Derek made a lasting impact on many of us both professionally and personally.

“Do everything with a kind heart,” he often said. Those simple words became a way of life. They reminded us that success isn’t measured only by what we accomplish, but by how we treat people along the way.

In memory of Derek, we hope you will join us on October 10 to build a bridge of hope.

Our bridge of hope will support the ground-breaking cancer research at UCI for the patients and families that depend on this important work.
